The Uruguayan striker that Diego Aguirre could sign for Cruz Azul

Cruz Azul officially introduced Diego Aguirre as their new coach on Monday evening, after parting ways with Juan Reynoso over a week ago, as the Peruvian coach had an irregular season in Clausura 2022, where La Máquina couldn’t win any titles.

Aguirre knows that the pressure is high in a Club like Cruz Azul, which is why he already started looking for a new striker, as La Máquina need a forward that can score consistently, unlike Iván Morales, who couldn’t score in Clausura 2022.

Although Los Cementeros have Santiago Giménez, who didn’t have enough opportunities to start with Reynoso but was able to score three goals, Aguirre knows that another striker is needed to improve the competition within the roster.

The answer for Aguirre could arrive from a former La Máquina striker, who is looking for more playing time as he still has chances of making it into the final roster of Uruguay National Team prior Qatar 2022, as Jonathan “Cabecita” Rodríguez is willing to return to Cruz Azul.

“Cabecita” left La Máquina at the start of Clausura 2022 to join Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr, but he hasn’t succeeded, and given that he even lost the starting role on the team, he’s looking to return to Liga MX to recover his level and be considered by Diego Alonso for La Celeste.

The problem for Cruz Azul will be paying his transfer, as Al-Nassr will be looking to recover the investment that they did a few months ago, when they paid $6 million for his economic rights. La Máquina could negotiate his loan given that both parties are interested in reuniting.
