Orbelín Pineda left Cruz Azul at the end of Apertura 2021 as a free agent to pursue his dream of playing in Europe, one he has fulfilled partly, as he joined La Liga side Celta de Vigo back in January, but Eduardo “Chacho” Cuoudet hasn’t trusted him and he’s still waiting for his chance to prove his talent.
Is it true that Kylian Mbappé has Cruz Azul as his favorite team in Mexico?
His departure of La Máquina didn’t help them economically, as he refused to renew his contract, especially since he knew that it would be difficult to leave once that he agreed on extending the relationship with the Mexican club.
That’s why he decided to end his stint so abruptly, given that he was one of the essential players in Juan Reynoso’s roster since the Peruvian arrived for Clausura 2021, as he helped them win a Liga MX title after 23 years of drought.
Now, another player is ready to follow his steps of not renewing his contract with Los Cementeros, but this time his decision doesn’t have to do with the fact that he wants to try new challenges but instead he hasn’t been able to adapt to Reynoso’s coaching system.
According to reports from the Brazilian media, it’s just a matter of time before Brayan Angulo migrates to the Amazonian country, leaving Cruz Azul without a single dollar in the process, as the contract of the Ecuadorian striker expires at the end of the season.
The 26-year-old forward doesn’t intend on agreeing on a contract extension, not even if Juan Reynoso has given opportunities to earn his confidence back and start scoring regularly, something that hasn’t happened yet and even Cruz Azul followers have been asking for his departure.
It’s yet to be seen what happens with Angulo and his future, but if the Ecuadorian decides to leave, La Máquina will only have three forwards on their roster, leaded by Santiago Giménez, who recently has earned the starting role.
The second forward in Los Cementeros roster is Iván Morales, who arrived in Liga MX for the current season, although he’s had a hard time adapting to Mexican soccer. The last forward that Cruz Azul currently has is the Paraguayan Ángel Romero, who can play as a forward even if his main position is left-winger.
