Even if Cruz Azul is still on the battle for Liga MX this season, as well as having chances of reaching the final of the CONCACAF Champions League, the results have not come their way in recent games, as they’ve won just two of the last five games that they’ve played in Clausura 2022.

The irregularity showed by La Máquina has to do with the tight schedule they’ve had since February, as they had to play 10 games in over a month prior to the FIFA match window at the end of March and then eight games in April.

If that wasn’t enough, La Máquina has become a hospital, as they have lost four of their best players in recent days, including Carlos “Charly” Rodríguez, who will miss the remainder of the season, and José de Jesús “Chuy” Corona, who has missed six games and won’t be part of the second leg of the semifinals.

The injuries, added to all the games they’ve played since February have wasted the relationship between Juan Reynoso and a group of players, especially one of them, who is ready to leave La Máquina once Clausura 2022 is over.

Who is the player that wants to leave Cruz Azul?

According to the report of El Francotirador, from Diario Récord, after he got injured, “Chuy” Corona realized that his time with Cruz Azul has come to an end, which is why he’s already looking for different options to continue his career.

The 41-year-old goalkeepers is under contract with Los Cementeros until the end of the 2022-23 season, but he already has talked with Reynoso, who will back up his decision, even if it means to leave the club where he’s played for the past 13 years.

One of the options that Corona is seriously considering is retiring, as he knows he’s had a long and successful career, especially since he was able to win a Liga MX title with Cruz Azul and being part of the Mexican squad that won the gold medal in the 2012 London Olympics.

If he doesn’t retire, where will he play?

The first option is Chivas, club where he briefly played in 2005, given that all his family lives in Guadalajara. But if that option doesn’t transcend, he could play in the United States, as he’s received a few offers from MLS to retire there.
