It seems like Amaury Vergara finally understood that Chivas won’t have a chance of becoming a contending team not only in Clausura 2022 but for the following seasons if Marcelo Michel Leaño remains in El Rebaño’s dugout.

If Marcelo Michel Leaño leaves Chivas, Matías Almeyda wants to be his replacement

Since Michel Leaño arrived in Chivas during Apertura 2021, El Rebaño has won just five games of the 19 that he’s coached. Chivas has tied seven more games and lost the remainder seven, numbers that are not flattering for what was expected for him.

It took him 10 rounds of the current season to realize that Chivas has become a team that won’t leave the middle of the table with Michel Leaño, after the scoreless draw in the Clásico Nacional, when El Rebaño weren’t able to beat one of the worst versions in Club América’s history.

If that same performance repeats against Atlas for the Clásico Tapatío, Vergara will finally decide to sack Marcelo Michel Leaño, as his results are unbearable, and will look for a new coach, someone that can arrive in El Rebaño thanks to Alexis Vega.

Who is the coach that could replace Michel Leaño?

According to reports from sports journalist Miguel Arizpe, Amaury Vergara already decided that he will part ways with Michel Leaño if Chivas don’t win against Atlas, team that currently stands fourth in Clausura 2022 and is contending to win the title again.

If that happens, Alexis Vega could have a key role in convincing the replacement of Michel Leaño to arrive in Verde Valle, as he has a good relationship with former Mexico National Team U-23 squad Jaime “Jimmy” Lozano.

Can “Jimmy” Lozano arrive in Chivas?

Currently, Jaime Lozano is coaching Necaxa, team that he arrived after four games of Clausura 2022 after Los Rayos parted ways with their former coach Pablo Guede. But since his arrival in Aguascalientes, Necaxa has slowly climbed places in Liga MX standings.

The good thing for Chivas is that Lozano’s contract with Necaxa doesn’t have a release clause, which means that they could convince him to take over the project, one that’s more ambitious given that Chivas is one of the biggest teams in Mexican soccer.
