It’s no lie to say that Club América is going through one of their worst crises in recent years, as they haven’t been able to win in Estadio Azteca after six rounds of Clausura 2022, and neither do they know what it means to have a clean sheet.

Emilio Azcárraga has decided that the two Santiagos will leave Las Águilas

The only game in which Las Águilas received less than two goals was on the opening game against Club Puebla, when they barely managed to tie in a match that was marked by the two red cards América received: one for Roger Martínez and the other one for Santiago Solari.

Since that game, it was clear that something was off, not only with Santiago Solari, who was known for always being level-headed, but also with the squad, that has lost the confidence and communication on the pitch that showed a season before.

Emilio Azcárraga already had a talk with Solari and the players and gave the Argentinean coach a grace period until he decides if he stays with Las Águilas or leaves his job. That grace period ends this weekend, when América receives Pumas in Estadio Azteca, although Solari might have already decided what to do ahead of time.

Will Solari already decided to resign?

Reports suggest that, given the bad results and the lack of solidity the team has showed in Clausura 2022, Santiago Solari already presented his resignation letter, as he knows he’s the responsible of the performance of the team.

Although inside Club América some people are still backing him up and want him to finish Clausura 2022 in Las Águilas dugout until a decision is taken, which is why Azcárraga won’t accept his resignation, as he’ll wait for the result against Pumas to decide what to do.

If he leaves, who can replace him?

Both Emilio Azcárraga and Santiago Baños are still pondering their options, as they never imagined that Las Águilas would have such a disappointment performance with Solari on the bench, but one of their favorite coaches to assume the position is Matías Almeyda, who is ready to end his stint with San José Earthquakes.
