After winning the Repechaje game against Pumas with a 4-1 score, Chivas are getting ready to face Atlas in the quarterfinals of Clausura 2022, stage that they couldn’t reach for the last two seasons, as Pachuca and Club Puebla eliminated them in Repechaje.
Ricardo Ferretti asks $3 million to sign with Chivas, making Ricardo Cadena the cheapest option
The new edition of the Clásico Tapatío will be the toughest game that Cadena has faced since he became the interim coach of Chivas, as the results he’s achieved in the past five games have placed him among the candidates to be El Rebaño’s coach for Apertura 2022, but if they manage to win the series, he will solidify his candidacy.
So far, Cadena helped Chivas reached Liguilla by winning four straight games that gave them the chance of finishing the regular season in the top half of the table, as well as leaving on their way the runner-up of the 2022 CONCACAF Champions League.
But for Ricardo Peláez, it doesn’t seem to be enough even if he already tied the number of victories that Marcelo Michel Leaño had during his stint as Chivas coach, although for Cadena it only took five games to reach it instead of 22.
One of the things that Ricardo Peláez argues is that Cadena doesn’t have enough experience coaching in the first division, something that could become a problem when the team foes through a rough patch, which is why he is looking for different candidates.
After being linked to Ricardo Ferretti and Marcelo Bielsa, Peláez keeps looking for different options to assume the coaching role in Chivas for Apertura 2022, and according to reports from sports journalist Miguel Arizpe, he already established conversations with another candidate.
Diego Aguirre, Uruguayan coach that has experience coaching in South America as well as in Qatar, has become the newest candidate to arrive at Chivas for the 2022-23 season, and could arrive for free as he parted ways with Brazilian side Sport Club Internacional in 2021.
The report of Miguel Arizpe also suggests that what Ricardo Peláez is trying to avoid is to have taken from him the credit of the good results that Chivas is having, as he believes that is not thanks to the work that Cadena has done, but because of the foundation of the roster he built back in 2019.
