Chivas couldn’t keep up the good streak that they had when Ricardo Cadena was named interim coach of El Rebaño and ended their participation in Clausura 2022 in quarterfinals, after falling against Atlas FC by a 4-3 aggregate.
El Rebaño Sagrado arrived at the quarterfinals after crushing 4-1 Pumas in Repechaje, game that Los Universitarios faced with the morale diminished, as only a few days before they lost the final of the CONCACAF Champions League against MLS side Seattle Sounders.
Chivas had won their four previous games, earning 12 points that helped them ensure their presence in Repechaje after being out of the playoff zone due to the irregular results that they gathered with Marcelo Michel Leaño.
But the series against Atlas was the first real challenge that Chivas faced with Ricardo Cadena on the dugout, and even if he tried to plan a game accordingly to the rival, the decisions that he made during the course of the game evidenced his lack of experience in Liga MX.
Before Chivas were able to part ways and rest for a couple of weeks before the preseason starts, Ricardo Cadena held what could have been his last meeting as Chivas coach, where he thanked the players for their support and the good season they had.
When he left Chivas facilities, he did it with a sad face, as he knows that his future in Chivas is not guaranteed after the defeat against Atlas, although he said that he put everything of him in the work he did and that he would like to return.
Amaury Vergara is now the one who has the decision on his hands, as the Mexican coach showed that he’s capable of building a good roster, although he still needs to earn more experience. Vergara will meet with the rest of the board in the following days to analyze his results and determine whether if Cadena remains in Chivas’s dugout or not.
Even if the victory over Atlas could have solidify his case, according to reports from sports journalist Jesús Hernández, he still is an option to assume Chivas’s coaching role for Apertura 2022, although he is the third option for now.
He’s a disciple of Marcelo Bielsa and is ready to arrive at Chivas
