Against Club Puebla, Chivas played the best 45 minutes of Clausura 2022, as they moved the ball around Puebla’s defense as they pleased and even made look bad one of the most solid teams of the current season, when they scored two goals to a defense that prior to the game had only received three goals in six games.

But everything changed for the second half, as La Franja quickly found the net through the feet of Fernando Aristeguieta, who opened the door to Los Camoteros comeback, that meant their fifth straight week as Liga MX leaders.

It’s true that the referee’s decisions were in detriment of El Rebaño Sagrado, although that was not the main reason of their debacle. During the second half, they showed the weaknesses that the team has had since Marcelo Michel Leaño arrived in Chivas’ bench.

The team looked completely different, as they were unfocused and preferred to challenge every decision the referee made instead of playing, which lead to a red card showed to Alexis Vega, and the eventual comeback of La Franja.

The team has no self-criticism

After the game, Chivas official social media accounts blamed the referee for the result that sank them in Liga MX standings, as they lost their third straight game. Players like Jesús Molina and José Juan Macías seconded the claims.

Chivas followers agreed with the team, placing the bad performances in the background, as they don’t have a solid project that has been reflected on the pitch. But the mistakes made by the referee bought Michel Leaño at least another week with El Rebaño, as they’ll play against Atlético San Luis on Wednesday and the Santos Laguna on Saturday.

Who will replace him if they don’t win?

Chivas must win against both Atlético San Luis and Santos Laguna, as they are two of the weakest teams in Clausura 2022, although Atlético San Luis has started winning after firing Marcelo Méndez and the arrival of the Brazilian coach André Jardine.

If they don’t manage to earn the six points, Amaury Vergara already has Michel Leaño’s replacement, as Pedro Caixinha just became available after his short stint with Santos Laguna. Caixinha didn’t perform well, but it’s clear that he’s one of the best coaches available, as he’s won Liga MX on previous occasions.
