Prior Clausura 2022 started, CF Monterrey tried to acquire Alexis Vega, who was entering his last year of contract with Chivas and hadn’t started negotiating a contract extension with El Rebaño, as his expectations were too high for what Ricardo Peláez was willing to offer.

Why would José Joaquín Esquivel join Club Deportivo Guadalajara for free, and what would his salary be?

According to reports, Monterrey was ready to triple his salary with Chivas if he accepted joining Rayados at the start of the year, as the were offering him a $3 million per season, something that convinced Vega to start conversations with them.

But given that his goal is to play in Europe, he decided to stay with Chivas at least for the first semester of the year, as he knew that if they didn’t reach an agreement, he was going to be able to negotiate over the summer his arrival in December as a free agent with any club he wanted.

In the past few days, Chivas made official that Alexis Vega had renewed with El Rebaño Sagrado and that he will keep playing in Estadio Akron until 2024, something that didn’t sit well with Monterrey, who now are targeting a possible Chivas addition to fill the place that was reserved for Vega.

Who is the player that Monterrey want to steal from Chivas?

Rayados is looking for a left-winger that can assume the starting role on their offense given that Victor Manuel Vucetich hasn’t found a player to fulfill that role in his current roster, as he’s tried Rodolfo Pizarro and Arturo González.

That’s why, when Chivas and Cruz Azul showed interest in negotiating the loan of Orbelín Pineda from La Liga side Celta de Vigo, Monterrey decided to start pursuing his addition as well, given that Pineda would be the perfect fit for what “Vuce” is looking for.

Vucetich knows Pineda from his stint in Club Querétaro, where he debuted in Liga MX back in 2014, and given that “El Maguito” needs playing time if he wants to be considered by Gerardo “Tata” Martino for the World Cup, his return to Liga MX seems more than possible.

Can Monterrey win the race to Chivas?

Orbelín was a protagonist in the last title that Chivas won in Liga MX, back in 2017, but the economic situation that the team currently is, has placed them one step below Monterrey on the race for adding the 26-year-old left-winger, as Rayados could offer to pay his full salary to convince Celta de Vigo to loan him to them instead of El Rebaño.
