It’s no lie to say that since Matías Almeyda left Chivas, they haven’t found a coach that connects with the people the way he did and that gives them another title, as the last Liga MX championship that El Rebaño won was in 2017 with Almeyda as their coach.

Chivas could part ways with Marcelo Michel Leaño and have their new coach thanks to Club América

Since his departure at the end of Clausura 2017 from Mexican soccer and his arrival to MLS side San Jose Earthquakes in October of that year, Chivas has had five different coaches: José Cardozo, Tomás Boy, Luis Fernando Tena, Victor Manuel Vucetich and Marcelo Michel Leaño.

With the current coach that Chivas have, they have won just four games on 16 matches and only one of them was on their last five games. For Clausura 2022, they have managed to earn eight points after eight rounds on a disappointing season that has Chivas followers demanding his dismissal.

Given that there’s inconformity with the poor results El Rebaño has had, a lot of people keep asking for Matías Almeyda’s return to Chivas, and even if Amaury Vergara hasn’t said a thing about the possibility, the most successful coach in over 40 years with Chivas addressed the matter.

Will Almeyda return to Chivas?

Almeyda’s relationship with San Jose Earthquakes has been tense for a while, as the coach doesn’t feel supported by the management, which is why he’s waiting for his contract to expire in order to leave the Quakes and possibly MLS.

Added to his current situation, the crisis in which Chivas is submerged are the perfect combination for his arrival in El Rebaño for a second stint. But when asked about the possibility, Almeyda answered that although he knows his name has been linked to El Chiverío, no one has spoken to him about the job.

What else did he say?

The Argentine coach said that he’s not a person that is looking to sell himself, although the way his name is linked to every Liga MX and even Mexico National Team vacant job might make him look that way. He said he doesn’t know if his name is part of the conversation in order to keep him out of the job or because they actually want to see him back, as he has never hidden the love and affection he feels towards Liga MX and Mexican soccer.
