After the 3-2 defeat against Club Puebla on a game that was marked by the refereeing decisions, Chivas inconsistencies and Club Puebla’s strong will, it’s clear that Chivas is going through a bigger crisis than what it was expected.

Refereeing mistakes bough Michel Leaño more time in Chivas, but Vergara has his replacement

La Franja somehow managed to kept Liga MX leadership for the fifth straight week, as they’re not only the only unbeaten team in Clausura 2022 after seven rounds, but also are just a few points away from what they needed last season to reach Liguilla.

But Nicolás Larcamón and his “Larcaboys” were also able to show how things in Chivas currently are, as the team backed up behind the excuse of the referee’s mistakes to make up their weak performances and lack of solidity. And if it was not enough, Alexis Vega was sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct, as he insulted the referee after the second goal of Puebla.

Why hasn’t Vergara said a thing about Chivas performances?

In moments where Amaury Vergara should act on the matter, he remains silent and away from the spotlight, especially after being seen in the Mexican Open, during the week, instead of being focused on the problems that El Rebaño must solve.

According to sports journalist Jesús Hernández, the main reason for maintaining Marcelo Michel Leaño as Chivas coach not only has to do with the friendship that Vergara has with him, but also because Leaño’s family has helped Amaury Vergara to solve some debts the team had, given that the Leaño’s are also a soccer family, as they used to own Estudiantes Tecos for a long time.

If the reports are true, Amaury Vergara is paying up the favor by letting all of Chivas’ sporting decisions go through Marcelo Michel Leaño, which is why he is still coaching Chivas after the demoralizing results El Rebaño has had during his stint in Chivas’ dugout, and the reason of Ricardo Peláez disappearance.

Chivas’ numbers with Michel Leaño

So far, Marcelo Michel Leaño has coached Chivas for 16 games, from which he’s won just four matches -two against Mazatlán FC, one against FC Juárez and the last one against Toluca, all of them, teams that are on the lower part of the table.

Michel Leaño has tied five more games, and lost the remainder seven, which gives an efficiency percentage of only 35.4%, as he’s only acquired 17 points out of 48 available, numbers that will soon involve Chivas in the relegation zone if he doesn’t manage to change things quickly.
