It’s clear that things inside Club América are not working and haven’t been for a while. Since their defeat in the final of 2021 CONCACAF Champions League, back in October against Monterrey, Las Águilas have won just one game out of 12 matches they’ve disputed.
All you need to know about América’s next game against Querétaro
The lack of positive results meant that América were eliminated from Liguilla in quarterfinals by Pumas UNAM, with an aggregate score of 3-1 after being leaders of Apertura 2021. Since then, their first and only victory was against Santos Laguna, the team that currently is standing last in Clausura 2022.
And although Santiago Solari managed to save a point on their visit to Ciudad Universitaria last weekend hence prolonging his stay in Las Águilas bench for at least another week, both Santiago Baños and Emilio Azcárraga already started looking for a coach that can replace Solari if he doesn’t turn things around.
Now that Marcelo “Loco” Bielsa was sacked from Leeds United, he has become a priority in América, as he already has experience in El Nido and, according to reports, he’d be willing to return to Mexico to continue his career.
With the point obtained in the scoreless draw against Pumas, América managed to avoid being the last standing of Clausura 2022, they currently are tied in points with Santos Laguna, team that parted ways with Pedro Caixinha and returned to the path of victory, something that doesn’t benefit Las Águilas.
If Solari fails to earn points against Querétaro and Monterrey, the two games Las Águilas will face this week, Baños and Azcárraga won’t wait any longer and will sack the Argentine coach, which is why they’re already considering having Bielsa as his replacement.
Marcelo Bielsa is known for boosting the careers of young promising players, something he did during his first stint in Liga MX, as he was the responsible of the careers of Rafael Márquez, Pavel Pardo and even Cuauhtémoc Blanco, which is why he is asking to not only have control over the first squad but also over the academy teams.
