According to TUDN, Luciano Vietto could arrive to Cruz Azul. The Al-Hilal player would not see the signing as a bad idea and would be willing to reinforce La Máquina's offensive department.
Vietto has lost prominence in the Arabian team. Last season he played 27 league matches, however, in this campaign his participation dropped to just under 50 percent, as he has only played 11 matches.
The Cementeros would be paying US$5.5 million for the services of the South American, and would also give him a contract for the next two years.
Vietto had his breakout year in the 2012-13 season when at the age of 19 he began to shine for Racing. He scored 13 goals in 33 games in his first full season in the first team. In the following season, his numbers dropped, but he retained the interest of big European teams, including Atletico de Madrid.
Although Diego Simeone, Atletico Madrid's coach, wanted the Argentine, the player signed for Villarreal, a Spanish club that plays in the same league as Atletico Madrid. He could not have had a more spectacular landing in Spain, scoring 20 goals in 48 games in the 2014-15 season to break out as one of the great South American promises.
After shining with Villarreal, Atletico Madrid decided to buy the Argentine for 20 million euros. But as a rojiblanco, that brightness stopped. Just three goals in the 28 games in which he participated in the 2015-16 season. He ended up playing only 54 minutes in the last 12 games he was called up.
He would return to have minutes as a rojiblanco in the 2017-18 season, after growing during his loan spell at Sevilla where he scored 10 goals in 31 appearances.
But things did not change. He played ten games without scoring before leaving on loan in January to Valencia, wherein the second game he scored a hat-trick in the Copa against Las Palmas that awakened the illusion of the che fans. But only two more goals would come before he headed to the Premier League at Fulham, where he only scored one goal.
Then he arrived at Sporting Lisbon in Portugal where Vietto was a little more successful, but in November 2020 the Argentinean decided to change his career, turning his attention away from the soccer spotlight, but with unparalleled earnings in Europe. At the age of 27, he headed for Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia.
Cruz Azul's management is still working to put together a competitive squad for the 2022 Clausura. The club has already signed right-winger Uriel Antuna and left-back Alejandro Mayorga from Chivas, defensive midfielder Erik Lira from Pumas, and forward Christian Tabó from Puebla.
In addition to the signings already mentioned above, midfielder Charly Rodríguez from Monterrey is about to close an agreement with the Celestes squad as well as Cristian Pavón from Boca Juniors. Almost six signings the club have agreed and if Luciano Vietto arrives at Juan Reynoso squad, the team will be more than satisfied with the work in the winter transfer window.
Will Luciano shine with Cruz Azul or will his career continue to fall?
