One of the most awaited transfers in Liga MX 2022 has finally been confirmed: Jonathan Dos Santos will play for Club America in the Clausura 2022 Tournament.
The player was announced by the team through its social networks and the news caused the club's followers to celebrate the player's arrival.
Dos Santos joins the Coapa club from LA Galaxy, where he played for five seasons and played 105 games, scoring 7 goals and providing 7 assists.
The player also became captain of the team and his teammates considered him a reference on the field.
Jona is the second reinforcement announced by Club America, after Diego Valdes, one of the best midfielders in Aztec soccer, who joined the Aguilas from Santos Laguna.
The Spanish nationalized Mexican player arrives from LA Galaxy after having played for FC Barcelona and Villarreal CF in Europe.
At 31 years of age, he signed a two-season contract with the Aguilas and arrives at the team to seek more playing time and prominence, in search of being called by Gerardo Martino for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The only detail with his arrival is that Jonathan is not a player trained in Mexico and has to occupy a foreigner's place, which forces the Azulcremas to get rid of a foreign player.
This is probably the reason why Club América transferred Renato Ibarra to Xolos de Tijuana today.
However, Mexican media reports state that the player sacrificed by the club to free up the foreigner's spot will probably be Uruguayan Federico Viñas, a player who is not considered by Santiago Solari.
The club's fans have been very forceful these days and just as they were very critical of Sebastian Cordova and his departure from the team, with Dos Santos they have been quite the opposite.
On Twitter, fans did not tire of welcoming the player and wished him much success in the tournament, although some did complain to the club that they need reinforcements on the wings and in central defense.
According to the website Transfermrkt, the cost of Jonathan Dos Santos' charter is 1.10 million dollars. In addition, it is known that the player was paid $2 million a year in MLS.
And Club America likely had to match this figure to get the holding midfielder, who was one of the stars of MLS's Los Angeles Galaxy, with whom he played between 2017 and 2020.
Through its social networks, the LA Galaxy said goodbye to the player and wished him good luck in his new adventure in Mexican soccer.
On the other hand, one of the stars of the club and the Mexican national soccer team, Guillermo Ochoa, sent a welcome message on Twitter to the youngest of the Dos Santos brothers.
Both players have been teammates in El Tri and there will likely be a good atmosphere in the dressing room due to their previous coexistence with the national team.
