The news was revealed by the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León team itself through its social networks, which were filled with expressions of affection for the French player.
The team did not provide further details about the health condition of the team's striker, however, as far as is known, his symptoms are not serious.
André Pierre-Gignac has not had the scoring start to the tournament he is used to, as he has only scored one goal so far, and that was against Pumas UNAM in last Sunday's match, where the Felinos made a spectacular comeback in a game they were trailing 1-0, and which ended with a 2-0 score in favor of Tigres.
With a tweet that read: "We inform our fans that Gignac did not show up for today's practice as he tested positive for COVID-19. Cheer up, striker, we're waiting for you here!", the team made the announcement and the club's followers were quick to show their affection for the player.
Many of them joked about it and used videos and gifs to express their sadness about the player's health condition.
Others ironized that the player's contagion was due to the probable departure of Carlos Salcedo from the team, who is about to leave to play for Toronto FC.
But in general and through humor, the team's followers lamented the news and sent their best wishes to Tigres' all-around goal scorer.
More news about Tigres:
The Nuevo León club was one of the most affected by the contagions in the current Liga MX 2022, as its first match against Santos had to be rescheduled due to several contagions in the feline team.
At the beginning of January, when the club carried out tests to check that there were no contagions in the team, they had a terrible surprise as 12 players from the first team tested positive, so they had to be isolated to avoid further contagions.
For this reason, LIGA MX, together with the two Clubs, decided to reschedule the Day 1 match against Santos Laguna for next Wednesday, January 12.
Another team whose schedules were affected due to the COVID-19 contagion was Xolos de Tijuana, which had a match scheduled against Puebla in Round 3 that was scheduled to take place on Friday, January 21, 2022.
The confirmation of the date change was released by La Franja through a press release, in which it was informed that most of the COVID-19 positive diagnoses were detected in members of the opposing team.
As a result, the match was rescheduled for Friday, January 28 at 9:00 p.m., Mexico time, making this the second Liga MX 2022 match to be postponed due to the pandemic.
