According to information from ESPN, Cruz Azul would earn millions from the sale of Jonathan Rodríguez, a striker who will no longer play for La Maquina in Liga MX 2022.

And this exit would mean the end of the drama that "Cabecita" Rodríguez has lived with Cruz Azul, a team he has already threatened to leave on several occasions in 2020 and 2021

Everything seems to indicate that with his departure, the "Celestes" would have monetary liquidity, which could be used to obtain more reinforcements for the Mexican League 2022

According to the Mexican press, the striker is already in Saudi Arabia to report with Al-Nassr, where Ramiro Funes Mori, brother of Rogelio Funes Mori, striker for Rayados de Monterrey, plays.

How many millions would Cruz Azul earn from the sale of the player?

According to ESPN journalist León Lecanda, "Cabecita" Rodríguez is already in Saudi Arabia to sign with his new team, Al-Nassr, in a transaction that will bring 6 million dollars to Cruz Azul

In this way, the Uruguayan striker will put an end to his successful spell with La Maquina, a team he helped to break a 20-year streak without a title

While it is true that Rodríguez's departure will mean that the "Cementeros" will lose their main striker, the arrival of the 6 million dollars will also be a relief for the club's finances.

Why does Rodríguez want to leave Cruz Azul?

The main reason for his departure is the salary he is currently being paid by La Maquina. And given his performance, the player is definitely worth what he is asking for.

According to various Mexican media outlets, the Charrúa striker was earning around US$1.4 million, making him one of the club's highest-paid players.

However, he was asking for a salary of US$2 million per year to renew with Cruz Azul, which did not happen and for which the player and the club had a conflict throughout 2020 and 2021

But in his new team, Al-Nassr the player will be able to earn much more than the two million dollars he was asking for, although the total amount he will earn is still unknown.

This exit is the most convenient for both parties since Rodriguez will be able to play in a club where he will have the salary he is looking for

And for Cruz Azul, the negotiated exit was the best option because if the player stayed at the club, he would be able to leave for free in December of this year, since he would be a free agent.

Jonathan Rodríguez's numbers that Cruz Azul will miss

Since he arrived at La Noria, the striker has been lethal for his rivals and an effective goal-scoring machine.

In his time with Cruz Azul alone, the player has played 109 games in which he has scored 50 goals and provided 12 assists

But all his time in Mexican soccer has been successful. If we add the games in which he played for Santos Laguna, the player has scored a total of 76 goals since he arrived in Mexican soccer
