It's been more than 2 months since Jonathan dos Santos arrived at the Aguilas and it's time to review: who is he and how many millions does the Club America player send off in the Clasico earn?
Santiago Baños already started negotiating wit Nicolás Larcamón to arrive in Club América
The question is one that fans of the Azulcremas have been asking themselves since the player's arrival, they simply haven't seen him contribute anything to the club.
Jonathan dos Santos Ramírez, born in Mexico City, Mexico on April 26, 1990, is a Mexican soccer player, the son of a Brazilian father and Mexican mother, and naturalized Spanish.
He currently plays as a holding midfielder for Club America of Liga MX, and his beginnings were in FC Barcelona, as he is a homegrown player of this institution.
Dos Santos was formed in this institution together with his brother Giovani, and during his stay in the culé club, he played matches in the Barcelona "B" as well as in the main team.
At this time, Jonathan played 28 games, but as he did not fit in the plans of the institution, the player was transferred to Villarreal CF.
In the Yellow Submarine, the midfielder played 126 games, scoring 7 goals and providing 8 assists, and then migrated to MLS, where he played for LA Galaxy, where his numbers were very similar to those of Villarreal.
After his stay with the Galaxians, in December 2021 it was announced his arrival to the Aguilas of Liga MX, where out of 10 rounds of the tournament, he has barely lined up in 5 games and has not scored any goals, nor has he provided any assists.
This is the most controversial part of the stay of the youngest Dos Santos in the Azulcrema club since this club pays the player a little less than 2 million dollars.
Although the exact amount of his salary is not known, many media outlets have questioned that what the player is paid does not correspond to his performance on the field.
As a sample, the media outlet Futbol Total reported that Dos Santos, from 2017 to 2021 earned a total of $10 million while playing for the LA Galaxy, to generate a total of 7 goals and 12 assists.
And his performance in Liga MX is also leaving much to be desired
In Mexico's Clasico Nacional, the Chivas vs. Club America match, interim coach Fernando Ortiz surprised everyone with a starting 11 that included several new players.
Among them were the lineup of Sebastián Cáceres, Roger Martínez and Jonathan dos Santos.
And with the addition of the latter, Aguilas fans were expecting to see a real display of skills from the youngest of the Dos Santos dynasty.
What happened? Jonathan was sent off in the 51st minute for a double yellow card after a foul on Sebastián Pérez Bouquet.
Dos Santos had already been cautioned for fouling the same player in the 25th minute of the match, proving that he does not have much to contribute to the Azulcrema club.
Jonathan signed for two full seasons with the club, but will he be able to correct his course and become a reference for the team? Only time will tell.
