Jonathan “Cabecita” Rodríguez is close to returning to Liga MX after forcing Cruz Azul to sell him once Clausura 2022 had already started, although this time, it won’t be to play for La Máquina, as he’s looking to wear his third Liga MX jersey.

The real culprit in the elimination of Cruz Azul against Tigres UANL

The 28-year-old Uruguayan striker is looking to return to a league that he knows well after less than six months from his departure to Saudi Arabian soccer, where he signed for Al-Nassr Riad until 2024 after he asked for his transfer.

Cruz Azul had to give in and even if his market value was set at $8.4 million, they had to sell him for $5.5 million, leaving them without a fair income as well as without their top striker, something that they suffered throughout the season as Juan Reynoso couldn’t find a good replacement.

But so far, his stint with the Saudi Arabians hasn’t been successful, as he lost his spot in the starting XI given his lack of production, something that has earned him the enmity of Al-Nassr fans, who feel like they were ripped off.

He’s close to return to Liga MX

As if that wasn’t enough, “Cabecita” Rodríguez also lost his place in the Uruguayan national team, which is why he is considering returning to Liga MX, a league that Diego Alonso knows well and follows closely as several Uruguayan players are currently in Mexico.

But according to reports from Diario Récord, it is CF Monterrey who are negotiating with the Uruguayan international for his return to Liga MX for Apertura 2022 after failing on his adventure in Saudi Arabia, something that will be one of the biggest additions if it ends up happening.

What Rayados now has to negotiate is how much will Al-Nassr are willing to accept for him, as even if Transfermarkt informs that he still has the same market value that when he was part of Cruz Azul, they are not willing to pay more than the $5.5 million that La Máquina received.

Cruz Azul, his plan B

If the arrival of “Cabecita” Rodríguez to Monterrey doesn’t end up happening, according to reports from sports journalist Armando Melgar, the Uruguayan striker doesn’t close the door to returning to Cruz Azul, as La Máquina needs a striker of his conditions.
