He arrived in Mexico back in 2017, when he joined Nexaca out of Porto B, and after a year of great performances, Cruz Azul signed him for the 2018-19 Liga MX Season. Two years later, he left on a rush when Cruz Azul was collapsing as part of Billy Álvarez scandals.

But now, two years later, Igor Lichnovsky is set to make his return to Liga MX after playing the past couple of seasons in Qatar. This time as a Tigres player, to replace Carlos Salcedo, who is reported to join MLS side Toronto FC.
The 27-year-old Chilean center back is under contract with Qatar side Al-Shabab Riyadh until 2023, but according to reports, he’ll join Tigres in a 4-year contract that will tie him with Los Felinos until the end of the 2025-2026 season.

Lichnovsky left Cruz Azul midseason as he claims he takes his professional decisions based on his faith, something that didn’t sit well with Cruz Azul followers, as they felt like a treason. It’s worth noting that he’s an open follower of Christianity and during his first stint in Mexico he even baptized some of his teammates.
