Club América still have to face Club Puebla for the second leg of the quarterfinals but that hasn’t stopped them from starting planning what the 2022-23 Liga MX season will be, as they already have targeted some players to strengthen the squad.
Club América already found Henry Martín’s replacement; they will pay less than $1 million for him
Las Águilas still have an opportunity of making it into the semifinals of Clausura 2022, as they saved a draw from their visit to Estadio Cuauhtémoc, thanks to a header by Sebastián Cáceres that equalized the score. For La Franja, it was Fernando Aristeguieta who scored their lone goal.
A victory or a 1-1 draw will give the Azulcremas the ticket to the semifinals, but Fernando “Tano” Ortíz will have to plan a perfect game, as La Franja, who are getting used to play Liguillas, will be one of the toughest rivals that they faced in Estadio Azteca.
But Ortíz also knows that despite what happens on Saturday night, they will have to strengthen the squad for Apertura 2022 if they want to keep the momentum going into the next season, as there’s some positions that need to be reinforced.
Although one of the positions that Las Águilas need to prioritize is in the offense, given that Henry Martín hasn't contributed and his lack of confidence is diminishing América’s performances, they also know that they need to have more options in the midfield.
For now, Álvaro Fidalgo and Richard Sánchez have established as the starting midfielders, with Diego Valdés having freedom to move over them, but aside for them, only Pedro Aquino is a reliable option, as Jonathan dos Santos has been inexistent this season.
That’s why according to reports from W Deportes Radio, Santiago Baños is looking to add Atlas midfielder Jeremy Márquez, who has been a revelation in the past year, as he was a fundamental piece in the championship that Atlas won after more than 70 years without a title.
According to Transfermarkt, his current market value is set at $4.2 million thanks to the outstanding performances that he’s had in the past year, an affordable sum for Las Águilas if they were to acquire the 21-year-old midfielder.
