After having one of their worst starts in their history in a Liga MX season, Club América have become the team that will finish Clausura 2022 with the best streak and is threatening to earn a new Liga MX title with Fernando “Tano” Ortíz on their dugout for less than a season.

Thanks to his performances in Club América, Alejandro Zendejas will play against Messi and Lewandowski

Since “Tano” Ortíz replaced Santiago Solari after eight rounds of Clausura 2022, Las Águilas not only have left the bottom of the table -as they had only six points thanks to one victory and three draws-, but also have become the only team, alongside Tigres and Club Pachuca, with a 5-victory streak.

Although they lost their first game with Ortíz as their coach, Las Águilas haven’t lost a game in the past six games, as they tied in the Clásico Nacional and then defeated Toluca, Necaxa, FC Juárez, Xolos de Tijuana and now Club León.

For now, Club América are standing seventh, just two points behind Cruz Azul, who currently holds the last place that grants access directly to Liguilla, although Ortíz knows that if they want to be considered amongst the best teams of Liga MX, he needs to improve the roster.

América is looking to replace Henry Martín

Las Águilas have been lacking a forward that can score consistently, as their top scorers are either wingers or midfielders, given that neither Henry Martín, Roger Martínez nor Sebastián Cordova have scored more than two goals.

That’s why they’re already looking to strengthen their squad for the 2022-23 season, especially since Ortíz most likely remain as their coach for at least another season, and their top priority is a striker that already knows Liga MX, that’s why their pursuing the addition of Nicolás Ibañez.

Ibañez was part of Atlético Madrid for a couple of seasons, although he never debuted with them given that he remained in Atlético San Luis until he was sold to CF Pachuca. Now with Los Tuzos, Ibañez has become one of the most solid forwards in Mexican soccer.

How much will they have to pay to acquire him?

The 27-year-old Argentine striker joined Pachuca for the current season after Los Tuzos paid $3.3 to acquire his economic rights. Since joining them, Ibañez has played a total of 29 games, scoring 11 goals, and assisting 2 times, all of which has increased his market value to $6.5 million.
