Jonathan “Cabecita” Rodríguez became one of the most explosive players Cruz Azul has had in recent years, so much, he scored the goal that helped La Máquina become Liga MX champion after 23 years, but this transfer window he decided it was time to leave Mexico.

After not reaching an agreement with Cruz Azul management to renew his contract and prolong his stay with Cruz Azul and asking for his transfer, “Cabecita” Rodríguez decided to join Saudi Arabian club Al-Nssr, which paid $6.5 million for his economic rights.
During an interview, Rodríguez said that he felt his time with Cruz Azul had come to an end and taking the decision of leaving to Saudi Arabia was hard for him, but it felt like the right choice, although he mentioned he would love to play again for Los Cementeros in the future.

After arriving in 2019 out of Santos Laguna, the 28-year-old Uruguayan international played a total of 109 games for Cruz Azul. During that span of time he was able to score 50 goals and assist on 12 occasions, figures that surely will be missed in Cruz Azul offensive side.
