Club América are focused on facing Club Puebla in the quarterfinals of Liguilla, after they managed to finish the regular season standing fourth and that La Franja beat Mazatlán FC in the Repechaje game last weekend, although the roster will go through changes once the season is over.

Club América will have their first departure even if they win Liga MX title

For starters, Fernando “Tano” Ortíz hasn’t ensured their stay in Las Águilas’s dugout even if he is the main responsible for the good streak that now has Club América in Liguilla after the terrible start that they had under Santiago Solari’s wing.

Club América will also have to look for a second goalkeeper, as Óscar Jiménez has asked for his transfer once the Clausura 2022 is over given the few playing time he’s had in the past year, as he only played three games in Apertura 2021.

As if that wasn’t enough, the future of Guillermo Ochoa could be far away from Club América, as the Mexico international hasn’t renewed his contract with Las Águilas and he will become a free agent at the end of the year.

Baños confirmed that they haven’t start negotiating

During an interview, Baños confirmed that Las Águilas haven’t started negotiating a contract extension with Guillermo Ochoa, as they are focused on the current season and there will be time to worry about that in the future.

Once the summer transfer window opens, Ochoa could start negotiating with any team he wants to arrive as a free agent in December, when his contract expires, something that has become a real possibility given the offers he’s received from MLS.

Several reports suggest that there’s at least three MLS teams interested in him, with Charlotte FC the main candidate to acquire him, as they are offering him a $6 million per season salary, something that Club América won’t match, as Ochoa is the highest-paid player in the roster with a salary of $4.5 million.

Who can replace him in Club América?

Baños confirmed that if Ochoa ends up leaving, they will look to sign a goalkeeper that is identified with the Azulcrema colors, someone like Agustín Marchesín, who will become a free agent in December and is looking to leave Porto FC, given that he lost his place in the starting XI.
