Tigres UANL overcame Atlas to win the fourth matchday of the Liga MX Apertura 2022 Tournament at the Universitario Stadium. The home team's goals were scored by Anderson Santamaría (40′) against and André Pierre Gignac (45+1′).
Tigres fans experienced one of those nights they haven't had in a long time: their team won, enjoyed themselves, imposed themselves with authority and made the most of the extra man they had for almost the entire match. They defeated Atlas 2-0 in a categorical manner, achieving their third victory in a row and catching up with Monterrey and Toluca, the other two leaders. Anderson Santamaría -on the counter- and André-Pierre Gignac gave the red-and-black team the lead.

It was two, but the difference could have been greater. In a match that looked evenly matched and hard-fought, it was Camilo Vargas who changed plans. Only 6 minutes into the match and the goalkeeper went out to cut a ball to either side. He was left paying for it and had to touch the ball with his hands outside the area to prevent Gignac's goal. Referee Ortiz, who was in the mood to hand out cards of all colors, quickly showed him the red card.
Immediately, another match began, because it was all Tigres. It was just a matter of waiting to see how long it would take the home team to open the scoring. There were chances for Gignac, Sebastián Córdova, Luis Quiñones, Juan Pablo Vigón had a header and then crashed a shot against the crossbar, but the key to the goal lay at the feet of Jesús Angulo.
The former Red and Black player shot from outside the area and his shot deflected off Santamaría. At 40', the long-awaited 1-0 arrived, to the delirium of the Universitario.
From that point on, it was all celebration for Tigres, as the pressure disappeared and the best soccer shown by this team in recent months came to the fore. A clear demonstration of this was the partnership between the Frenchman and Córdova. Dedé played the ball to the former América, who returned the ball and made it 2-0 to the Azul Azul legend. The felines were in the ascendancy at the end of the first half.
