The 2006 World Cup winner and only active player on the FIFA 100 list, Gianluigi Buffon said he wants to play in Liga MX or MLS before his retirement, in an interview with Hristo Stoichkov.
In a media interview, the legendary "Gigi" said that playing in one of these two leagues is an experience he would like to have.
Buffon stated at 43 years of age that he is willing to make this leap once he has returned to his current team, Parma, to Serie A.
After Hristo Stoichkov asked the "Superman" about the possibility of playing in the United States or Mexico, countries that will host the 2026 World Cup, the historic Juventus goalkeeper said:
"They are experiences that I would like to have. After we return to Parma to Serie A, we'll see what happens".
His statements have sparked a veritable tsunami of speculation as to when this possibility could become a reality and which teams he could play for.
The player ended his response with a glimpse of what the future holds for him:
"If you ask me about what I will do tomorrow, the truth is I don't know if I will be a manager or a coach. Knowing me, I think what I want is to improve.
The Aztec soccer teams that could sign the player's services could be Chivas, America, Monterrey, and Tigres.
This is because the goalkeeper currently has a salary of 1, 542, 537 million dollars according to information from different media.
And it is precisely these Liga MX teams that would have the possibility of taking the player to Aztec lands, which would open the possibility of other great figures arriving at Mexican soccer.
America is the team with the most experience in this type of contracting, having brought in stars such as Claudio "El Piojo" Lopez in the past.
The Argentinean player arrived in Mexican soccer in 2004 and became the bomb signing of the season, coming from SS Lazio.
As for the North American league, which year after year continues to grow and consolidate, the teams that are candidates to bring "Gigi" would be Atlanta United FC, LA Galaxy, Los Angeles FC, and Seattle Sounders.
However, Toronto FC could join the bidding, which has been trying to get Lorenzo Insigne for some time, for whom they have made an offer of 15 million dollars.
However, if there is a team used to big signings in MLS, it would be LA Galaxy.
In the past this team managed to bring in Zlatan Ibrahimovic, another legendary player from Europe, who scored what is considered the best goal in MLS history.
And this investment proved highly profitable for the MLS club, just as it did for Liga MX's Club America when it brought in "Piojo" Lopez.
While Buffon's statement is not specific about when he would like to arrive in either of these two leagues, it is a fact that there are already teams with checkbooks in hand, ready to sign him.
