Fernando “Tano” Ortíz has become one of the most successful coaches in Clausura 2022 and he managed to do it with only 11 games in Liga MX, as he took Club América at the bottom of the table after half of the season had already passed, and now has them in the semifinals.

The European club is looking to steal Álvaro Fidalgo from Club América

Before the quarterfinals, reports from TUDN suggested that Emilio Azcárraga was content with the results that “Tano” Ortíz had achieved in the short period of time that he had with the first team, and that Santiago Baños was considering naming him as the coach for Apertura 2022.

But before he could be ratified as Las Águilas coach, one of the conditions established by the Club América president was to surpass what Santiago Solari achieved during his stint, meaning that the Azulcremas had to make it at least into the semifinals.

After one of the most intense series in the quarterfinals, Club América managed to beat Club Puebla with a 4-3 aggregate, Las Águilas are now waiting to face CF Pachuca, first in Estadio Azteca on Thursday and then in Estadio Hidalgo on Sunday.

Ortíz knows what needs to be reinforced

But now that Las Águilas are just four games away from a new Liga MX title, Ortíz has started planning what will be next season, and according to reports from sports journalist Miguel Arizpe, Azcárraga and Baños are willing to provide him with the players he requests, as they know that they owe him for getting them out of the bottom of the table.

The Argentine coach knows that one of the things that Las Águilas need to improve is the defense, which is why they are looking to add Santos Laguna captain Matheus Dória and given the good relationship that exists between both clubs, the move is something likely to happen.

But that’s not the only zone of the pitch that needs improvement, as the possible departure of Álvaro Fidalgo to European soccer, as well as the lack of goals that Club América had throughout the season, are forcing him to look for a new midfielder and another striker.

Who are the two players that “El Tano” wants?

It’s yet to be seen if Henry Martín stays in Club América, but regardless, Las Águilas are looking to acquire Atlético San Luis striker Germán Berterame, who was the top scorer for Clausura 2022. In addition, they are also after Jeremy Márquez from Club Atlas to reinforce the midfield.
