Club América were eliminated in the semifinals of Clausura 2022 as they couldn’t beat CF Pachuca, who were the most consistent team throughout the regular season, something that was demonstrated by ending as leaders of Liga MX.

But one of the things that hasn’t been pointed previously is that the defeat against Los Tuzos in the second leg of the semifinals was only the second defeat of Fernando “Tano” Ortíz since he took over the team after week eight of Clausura 2022.
But not even after having a 11-game streak without a defeat, after Las Águilas having won only one game with Santiago Solari at the start of the season, have made Emilio Azcárraga and Santiago Baños to announce him as the new coach of Club América.
Miguel Herrera is aware of it and after a new failure in his career, this time with Tigres, who were eliminated by Atlas FC in the other semifinal and even were disqualified due to an illegal formation, is looking to return to Club América for a third stint, as Las Águilas have been the team where he’s been more successful.
Although Miguel Herrera has never left América due to bad results, the first time was to coach the Mexican national team and the second time for his attitudes outside the pitch, Azcárraga knows that the prestige of the team is what matters, not the good performances.
That’s why they decided to part ways with Herrera at the end of Apertura 2020 to be replaced with the former Real Madrid coach, and the reason why he won’t be hired again, at least not soon. Instead, Azcárraga knows that they already found the perfect coach for América.
Reports from Diario Récord suggest that even if “El Tano” Ortíz hasn’t signed a contract extension, once the season is officially over, he’ll be presented as the new coach of Las Águilas, as the good results and the way he rebuilt the confidence of the team were enough for Azcárraga to accept his stay.
It’s yet to be seen how much more time Las Águilas will add to his current contract once he agrees to an extension, but for now, “El Tano” Ortíz is under contract with Club América until December of 2022, meaning that he’ll stay at least for Apertura 2022.
