Even though their team won fifth place in the FIFA Club World Cup, Monterrey fans booed the Rayados at the Abu Dhabi stadium and made their dissatisfaction with the team felt.
Monterrey beats Al Jazira 3-1 for fifth place in the FIFA Club World Cup
And not only that, the fans were firm and showed that their dissatisfaction is especially with the team's coach, Javier "Vasco" Aguirre.
"Vasco should go, his game sucks" was one of the chants that resounded the loudest in Abu Dhabi during the match in which Monterrey defeated Al Jazira without much difficulty.
However, the Rayados' victory was not enough for their fans, who throughout the match did not stop chanting this complaint, which seems more directed at the coach than at the rest of the team.
At the end of the match, two players decided to respond to the booing issue when questioned by the press, giving their points of view on the subject.
The first was the team's recent reinforcement, Rodolfo Pizarro, who when questioned about the booing said:
"I did not hear any booing, I like that they put pressure on us, it is Monterrey, we know it is a difficult place. It's fine for them to demonstrate, it's fine for them to demand, nothing happens."
The second to give his opinion on the subject was César Montes, a player who could not be present in the duel against Al-Ahly, due to the fact that he was unable to travel with the rest of the squad because he tested positive for a COVID-19 test.
Regarding this, the "Cachorro" stated, "I was not present but I feel part of what happened and people have the right to demonstrate."
On February 6, it was reported that at least ten Rayados fans who traveled to the United Arab Emirates intercepted the Mexican team's truck after the players finished training on Sunday.
The fans wanted to complain to the team about the defeat suffered in their debut in the FIFA Club World Cup, however, no one from the team came down to address the complaints, and the players were able to continue their journey.
The Rayados fans threatened the team's players with demands such as "Get down, Aguirre; get down, Aguirre, for goodness sake", "Come and face us, that's all", or "Tomorrow I will come at the same time, and there will be more of us".
Despite the tense moment, the encounter did not escalate and the players were able to continue their trip.
