When the season first started, Cruz Azul was one of the strongest contenders for the Liga MX title, as they were one of the teams that added more and better players from the ones that left, even if they couldn’t retain players like Jonathan “Cabecita” Rodríguez.

Club América, interested in acquiring Erik Lira from Cruz Azul; they offer three players in return

For the first six games of the season, La Máquina lived up to the expectations, as they earned 13 points as a result of four victories and one draw, points that helped them to remain in the battle for the top spots throughout the season.

But once the schedule started to get tight, they played two games per week since February, Cruz Azul slowed down and let go points that would have been of use at the end of the season, as they only managed to win three games more in the rest of Clausura 2022.

On top of that, they lost the opportunity of making it into the final of the CONCACAF Champions League, as they weren’t able of scoring one goal in Estadio Azteca for the second leg of the semifinals, adding the elimination to the poor results that Reynoso has gathered so far, something that they will try to change in Repechaje, when they face Club Necaxa looking for a positive outcome and make it into Liguilla.

Ordiales is looking to sign a top Head Coach

The return of Jaime Ordiales to La Máquina was also a breaking point for Cruz Azul, as the tension that exists between him and Juan Reynoso ended up affecting the players and their performances, which is why Ordiales is waiting for the season to be over for Los Cementeros to part ways with Reynoso.

Instead of the Peruvian coach, Ordiales already has in line the coach that will be his replacement, as he already tried to hire him in the past, but Álvaro Dávila blocked his arrival as he didn’t like his project. But now that Dávila is gone, Hugo Sánchez has the doors open to resume his coaching career.

According to reports from Diario Récord, Ordiales already established conversations with “Hugol”, who now that he lives in Europe is requesting a salary of $3 million per season for him and his coaching staff, something that La Máquina’s sporting director is willing to pay.

Reynoso still has the chance of staying in Cruz Azul

Although everything points towards a breakup once the season is over, Reynoso still has one chance of staying in Cruz Azul and fulfilling the remainder of his contract, as they need to win Liga MX title for that to happen, something that looks difficult as they’ve only won one of the last 10 games they played.
