Clausura 2022 isn’t over yet, and Cruz Azul already lost their first player, as La Máquina announced that they are parting ways with Brayan Angulo after the Ecuadorian forward negotiated rescinding his contract three months before it expired.
Brayan Angulo to leave La Máquina, how much money will Cruz Azul save?
The 26-year-old forward will join Brazilian side Santos FC until June 2023 with an option to buy, where he expects to have a fresh start after he couldn’t adapt to Mexican soccer and the coaching system implemented by Juan Reynoso.
Reynoso backed him up several times when Cruz Azul followers were asking for his dismissal, especially since he believed that Angulo could be of help for the last part of the season, given that they are pursuing both Liga MX and CONCACAF Champions League.
Now, La Máquina will have to start looking for a replacement earlier than expected, as they knew the chances of retaining him were low, but they were expecting that Angulo fulfilled his contract, which expired at the end of the season.
Los Cementeros will have to end Clausura 2022 with Santiago Giménez as their best striker. Alongside “Chaquito”, Reynoso can also use the Paraguayan Iván Morales, who arrived this season in Liga MX and the 18-year-old academy player Rodrigo Huescas, who already had minutes with the first team.
Both Reynoso and Jaime Ordiales are already looking for potential replacements, and according to reports from W Deportes, their first option is Atlas striker Julio César Furch, as he’s been one of the most consistent attackers in Liga MX since he arrived in 2015.
Another option is the Uruguayan Nicolás “Diente” López, who currently plays for Tigres, although reports suggest that he’s looking to leave given that he doesn’t get enough playing time, as André-Pierre Gignac doesn’t usually miss any games.
If Cruz Azul doesn’t manage to acquire of Furch or “Diente” López, Reynoso would pursue the addition of Peruvian striker Santiago Ormeño, as he knows him from his stint with Club Puebla and knows how to make the most out of him, especially since Ormeño has lost the protagonism he had with La Franja since joining Club León.
Nicolás Larcamón will be Club América’s next coach, but he won’t arrive alone
