Cruz Azul fell on their visit to Estadio Universitario by a 2-1 score against Pumas for the first leg of the semifinals of the CONCACAF Champions League, with a brace scored by Juan Ignacio Dinenno on the first half, although Cristian Tabó was able to reduce the difference at the end of the game.

But even if Dinenno had a good performance, the reality was that Sebastián Jurado was the villain of the match, as he was an accomplice for both goals of Pumas, especially the first, where he tried to intercept a ball and left his goal open.

Jurado has been the starter goalkeeper for La Máquina since José de Jesús “Chuy” Corona got injured on the warm-ups prior their visit to Montréal in the second leg of the quarterfinals, but the lack of regularity has been evident in the plenty mistakes he’s made.

That’s why Cruz Azul are considering adding a new striker to replace him for next season, as Jurado hasn’t been able to show the same level he had in 2019, when he debuted with the now extinct Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz.

Who are the goalkeepers that can replace him?

It’s yet to be seen what happens with “Chuy” Corona, who is still under contract until the end of the 2022-23 Liga MX season, but already is 41, and if he doesn’t manage to fully recover, La Máquina will have to look for a new goalkeeper.

They are already looking for potential replacements and Carlos Acevedo is one of the best available options, as he’s already experienced enough in Liga MX and is in need of a bigger challenge to finally be considered by Gerardo “Tata” Martino to be part of El Tri.

Carlos Acevedo has said in the past that he wouldn’t mind leaving Santos Laguna to another Liga MX club if it was to improve his career, opening the possibility of his arrival to La Máquina once the current season is over.

Antonio Rodríguez, their second option

The Club Querétaro goalkeeper is looking for a change after the violent acts that happened in Estadio Corregidora over a month ago, which could be a good option for Los Cementeros, as Antonio Rodríguez is an experienced goalkeeper that hasn’t been able to establish in any club he’s played.
