Even if they were able to compete against Tigres, who along CF Pachuca were the most consistent teams in the regular season, it was the fact that they only won one of the last 10 games that they played in the semester what the board didn’t like.

Added to that, the return of Jaime Ordiales, with whom Reynoso had a marked enmity, made things tense within the club, to the point of demanding a title in the semester if the Peruvian coach wanted to finish his contract.

La Máquina couldn’t win any of the titles that they were pursuing, as they also were eliminated by Pumas in the semifinals of CONCACAF Champions League, even if the team was built to compete for both championships at the same time.

Cruz Azul found Reynoso’s replacement

Although several names have been linked to Cruz Azul even since before the regular season ended, like Hugo Sánchez and Ricardo Ferretti, Ordiales kept looking for different options, and it seems like he found the perfect replacement for Reynoso.

According to reports from sports journalist César Luis Merlo, even if in recent days the names of Francisco Palencia, José Manuel de la Torre and Christian Giménez have been linked to La Máquina, it will be Diego Aguirre who arrives at Cruz Azul’s dugout.

Aguirre was first linked to Chivas but given that Amaury Vergara wants to have Ricardo Cadena and Ricardo Peláez refuses to announce him, Cruz Azul seized the opportunity and agreed with the Uruguayan coach his arrival at La Máquina, after a few loose ends were solved.

How much will Aguirre win at La Máquina?

According to the reports, although the project that Cruz Azul showed Aguirre was the one that convinced him the most, the salary was the thing that had stuck negotiations. But now that they agreed in a $2 million per season salary, they are ready to announce him as the new coach of Los Cementeros.
