One of the things that Club América has to thank Fernando “Tano” Ortíz for, is the fact that he managed to help the team finish the season in the top four, which gives them one week to rest, as they directly qualified to Liguilla.
Club América already have their first addition for Apertura 2022
Las Águilas are waiting in the quarterfinals for their rival, as they will play against the highest-seeded of the four teams that win their game in Repechaje. For now, the Azulcremas can face one of five teams: Club Puebla, Cruz Azul, CF Monterrey, Chivas or Club Necaxa.
But the bye-week not only will serve for the roster to rest, but also for Fernando Ortíz to start planning what will be the next season of the Azulcremas now that he’s the top contender for becoming Club América’s full-time coach.
One of the things that Ortíz is looking to do is find new players to strengthen the squad for Apertura 2022, as he knows that even if he’s found a good starting XI, there’s things that can still be improved and players that don’t have a place in Las Águilas anymore.
Even if El Clásico Joven ended in a scoreless draw, not everything was bad news for Club América, as the point earned allowed them to surpass Club Puebla in the standings and helped him to have a closer look of one of the players that could arrive at América next season.
According to Ortíz himself, Erik Lira caught his eye as he was one of Cruz Azul’s most outstanding players on the field, as his work on the midfield was a key for La Máquina to keep their goal untouched, something that also Gerardo “Tata” Martino has noticed.
Although Lira had been one of the most constant midfielders since debuting with Pumas, since his arrival at Cruz Azul, his opportunities have boosted, as he’s now considered by Martino to be part of the upcoming games that Mexico National Team will play and has high possibilities of making it into Qatar 2022.
That’s why, if Club América wants to acquire him for Apertura 2022, they know that La Máquina won’t accept only money for his transfer, which is why they are prepared to offer up to three players that have showed their talent in the past.
Fernando Ortíz will start a locker room cleanout once the season is over, which is why they are willing to offer Jordan Silva, who has come to less with Ortíz on the dugout, as well as Mauro Lainez, who hasn’t transcended in Las Águilas and is in need for a fresh start, and Santiago Naveda, one of the young players that have stood out the most in recent seasons with Club América.
