Pachuca visited Atlas in the first leg of the final with the objective of not leaving Estadio Jalisco with a score as bulky as the one that Tigres had on their visit to Atlas, as it was the thing that kept Los Felinos out of the last two games of the season, although they couldn’t stop Atlas and lost 2-0.
Julio Furch’s decision of leaving Atlas FC after the final to join Club América
Pachuca started the game pressuring Atlas, and had the possession for most of the game, but it was Los Rojinegros who opened the score after only 26 minutes, thanks to a header from Luis Reyes that left Óscar Ustari stunned, as he didn’t have an opportunity to stop the ball. The second goal was a last-minute goal scored by Julián Quiñones, who stole the ball close to Pachuca’s box and shoot against Ustari.
But even if “Hueso” Reyes and Julián Quiñones gave Atlas the advantage for the second leg, it was Camilo Vargas who has Los Rojinegros one step closer to their second championship in the same number of seasons, as he was an authentic wall that stopped every single shot that Pachuca tried.
Although Club América weren’t able to beat FC Pachuca to make it into the final of Clausura 2022, the game between Atlas FC and Los Tuzos has gathered the attention of Las Águilas as they are after players from both teams.
Las Águilas will have to wait for Apertura 2022 to try to lift a new Liga MX trophy as they fell two games short in the current season, but that doesn’t leave Las Águilas out of the conversation in the final, as they are pursuing the addition of a couple players from both teams.
One of the reports that has transpired the most suggest that Las Águilas are looking to acquire Julio Furch given that they are in need of a striker that can score consistently. And even if the interest is real, their priority is a player from Pachuca.
According to reports from W Deportes, Victor “Pocho” Guzmán, midfielder from Pachuca, is the player that Fernando “Tano” Ortíz has requested to Santiago Baños to become the first addition for Las Águilas, and the Mexican midfielder wouldn’t see with bad eyers arriving at América.
Las Águilas know that even if Guzmán is interested in joining them, they will have to pay $8.25 million to acquire his economic rights from Pachuca, although the investment is worth the risk as the 27-year-old midfielder is in Gerardo “Tata” Martino’s radar and Las Águilas could serve as a bigger showcase for him to be considered for the final roster of Mexico National Team.
