Club América finally found the coach that will be in the dugout for Apertura 2022 after an extensive search that started on round nine of Clausura 2022, the week after they parted ways with Santiago Solari after the poor results that he achieved.

Santiago Baños erased him from Club América and now he’s heading to Europe

Emilio Azcárraga and Santiago Baños decided to promote Fernando “Tano” Ortíz as interim coach for the remainder of Clausura 2022 while they searched for the new coach of Club América, as they knew they couldn’t hurry taking a decision as transcendental as that.

Among the names that were linked to Club América were Nicolás Larcamón, who was the favorite to become the next Azulcrema coach during most of the season; Ricardo “Tuca” Ferretti, who now is available after parting ways with FC Juárez, and even Daniel Brailovsky, although he could still arrive but as the sporting director.

Among the top candidates, Las Águilas management never considered Fernando Ortíz, as this was his first time coaching in Mexico’s top flight, given that he arrived at El Nido to coach the U-20 team, but after the good performances that he’s had, he became a real candidate to become the next coach of Club América

Azcárraga and Baños already took a decision

Although some reports suggested that Azcárraga and Baños were waiting until the participation of Club América ended before deciding, sources say that they already know who is going to be the coach that assumes the position for Apertura 2022.

Reports from Sancadilla informed that Club América plans on keeping Fernando Ortíz as their coach for at least the 2022-23 Liga MX season given the good performances that Las Águilas have had during his short stint in front of the team.

Santiago Baños will ratify “El Tano” Ortíz as the next coach of Club América, as the chemistry that the team currently has with him is something that Las Águilas didn’t have since 2018, when they won Liga MX for the last time.

What happens if they lose against Club Puebla?

Regardless of the outcome in Liguilla, Baños knows that backing up the project of Ortíz for the next season could be the decision that saves his job in América, as his future is hanging by a thread given the lack of results he’s achieved during his stint.
