One of the best things that happened to Chivas in Clausura 2022 was that Amaury Vergara decided to part ways with Marcelo Michel Leaño, as the Mexican coach never found a way of making El Rebaño Sagrado transcend in Liga MX.
Chivas: Ricardo Peláez is looking to replace Ricardo Cadena at the end of the season
During his stint as Chivas coach, Michel Leaño only won five games of the 22 he was in front of the Rojiblancos -three of those victories were in Clausura 2022-, he also gathered nine draws and eight defeats for less than 40% of effectiveness.
Although Vergara had promised him to give him at least one full season in El Rebaño’s dugout and after that they would analyze his continuity, he realized that keeping him on the dugout was unsustainable if they wanted to have any chances of making it into Liguilla.
Ricardo Cadena took over the job and in only four games he completely changed the face of the team, as they now have a four-game winning streak that helped them reach the top of the table and left them just one point away from avoiding Repechaje.
But according to reports from Diario Récord, the plan of Chivas executives is to change coaches over the summer, as they want someone with more experience, given that this was Cadena’s first time coaching at first division.
Once the season is over for Chivas, Cadena will return to his former job as CD Tapatío coach, in Liga de Expansión, and El Rebaño will start negotiating the signing of Marcelo Bielsa, one of the best coaches in the world and that remains available after parting ways with Premier League side Leeds United.
The main problem that Ricardo Peláez and Amaury Vergara are facing on their pursue of Marcelo Bielsa, is the high salary that he perceives, as with The Peacocks, the Argentine coach had a salary worth $8 million per season, something that Chivas won’t be able to pay.
Bielsa knows Mexican soccer and especially Guadalajara as he coached Atlas during the 90s, which is why he doesn’t see with bad eyes returning to “La Perla Tapatía”, although this time with Chivas. Sources say that he’s willing to lower to salary up to half of what he earned at Leeds to around $4 million, but he’d also expect a big investment in the Academy teams and new additions.
