After both Club América and Mazatlán FC sacked their coaches during the week given the bad results that Santiago Solari and Beñat San José had during the 8 rounds of Clausura 2022, the last coach that is on thin ice for the second leg of 2021-21 Liga MX Season is Marcelo Michel Leaño, from Chivas.

Who is Marcelo Michel Leaño, championships won, and his record with Chivas?

Michel Leaño arrived in Chivas dugout for the round 11 of Apertura 2021, and since then, Chivas have won just 4 out of 16 games. El Rebaño have tied 5 games and lost the remainder 8, numbers that are way worse than what José Manuel Vucetich achieved before he was sacked.

Although both Ricardo Peláez and Amaury Vergara are worried for their current performances -they lost 3-2 against Club Puebla after hey started winning the game 2-0 and then were 2-0 down against Atlético San Luis, although they managed to save a draw-, they will give Michel Leaño one more chance this weekend, when they receive Santos Laguna in Estadio Akron.

That doesn’t mean that in Verde Valle are already looking for potential replacements, and one of the top candidates to replace Michel Leaño could agree to arrive in Chivas thanks to the recent movements made in Club América, as the departure of Santiago Solari will open the door for Javier Mascherano to take over the team.

Why could Mascherano arrive in Chivas?

Reports suggest that the U-20 squad of Argentina National Team, who currently is coached by the former FC Barcelona defensive midfielder, has contacted Solari, as they think it would be a great fit for the Albiceleste after the job he did in Real Madrid Castilla.

If Solari’s arrival to Argentine squad becomes real, Mascherano would become available and Chivas wouldn’t let go the opportunity again, as they were tempted to hire him after Vucetich’s dismissal, although Vergara decided to stay with Michel Leaño.

According to sports journalist Rafael Ramos, Chivas already sent an offer to acquire Mascherano’s services. Javier will wait to give them an answer until the situation with Solari is resolved, although he doesn’t see with bad eyes taking over the challenge.

How much will it cost to have Mascherano?

Reports suggest that Marcelo Michel Leaño currently earns $740,000, a sum that’s below from what former Chivas coaches have earned, as Vucetich had a $1.8 million per year salary. But if Amaury Vergara wants to hire the former Blaugrana, he’d have to pay more than that, as Mascherano currently earns $2 million per year.
