On Sunday night, Chivas managed to defeat 4-1 Pumas in Repechaje for a ticket to Liguilla, where they will face Atlas in a new edition of the Clásico Tapatío, where El Rebaño Sagrado will try to improve their winning streak and prove that they are a real candidate for the Liga MX title.
For Chivas' next match, Atlas awaits them. Who rules in the Clásico Tapatío?
Although El Rebaño’s performance was marked with the contributions of players like Alexis Vega, who scored a goal and assisted, or Eduardo Torre, who controlled the midfield to give possession, not everything was good for Chivas.
The injury of Jesús “Canelo” Angulo during the first half will leave a spot that will be hard to be filled in the midfield, as since Ricardo Cadena took over the team, “Canelo” had established as one of the best players in the roster and was playing at the highest level of his career.
According to the broadcasting, Angulo was taken to a hospital during the match to assess the severity of his injury, and during Monday’s morning, Chivas announced on their social media that he suffered a fibular fracture and that he already had surgery.
El Rebaño Sagrado will start their journey in Liguilla this week, when the face Atlas in Estadio Akron for the first leg and then they’ll visit Estadio Jalisco for the second leg of the quarterfinals, although they will have to do it without Jesus Angulo.
Chivas announced that the 25-year-old midfielder will be out of activity at least three months, added to the time that it will take for him to regain his shape, meaning he will be ready to return to Chivas lineup until September if everything goes according to plan.
Even if it is a sensible absence in the starting lineup of Ricardo Cadena for the remainder of the season, he managed to find in Pavel Pérez the player that could replace him for now, although Chivas are already planning on adding a new offensive midfielder for Apertura 2022.
Reports suggest that El Rebaño has been interested in adding CF Pachuca offensive midfielder Víctor Guzmán for a while, as they already tried to sign him, but a doping test prevented him from arriving, but now they will try again to negotiate with Tuzos for his economic rights.
Amaury Vergara is finally considering having Ricardo Cadena as the next Chivas coach
