Club América decided to part ways with Santiago Solari after the Argentine coach couldn’t meet the goals established by Emilio Azcárraga and Santiago Baños, as he left Las Águilas second to last in Liga MX table, with only six points after eight rounds.
Juan Carlos Osorio is just one step away from arriving in Club América
Although Solari was the main responsible of the current crisis in which Club América currently is in, the players haven’t showed the same energy and will they used to have last season, when they were Liga MX leaders and lost just two games.
For Clausura 2022, Las Águilas haven’t found a striker that could help them leave the bottom of the table, as Henry Martín has only scored two goals in the current season, same number of goals that Bruno Valdez and Salvador Reyes have. Its worth noting that both are defenders.
That’s why they need a player like Carlos Vela, who has been linked before to Club América, although he has said on multiple occasions that he’s not planning on returning to Mexico. At least not just yet, as he plans on playing either in Europe or stay in MLS once his contract with Los Angeles FC is over.
But things could change in favor of Las Águilas if reports of the arrival of Juan Carlos Osorio to El Nido are true, as the former Mexico National Team coach already knows Carlos Vela and was able to convince him to return to El Tri for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, something he will try to replicate in Club América.
Reports from Colombia suggest that his arrival to Las Águilas is almost a done deal, as both parties are agreeing in the last details of his contract. One of Osorio’s requests to return to Mexico, where he briefly coached Club Puebla, is the arrival of his full coaching staff without the interference of Santiago Baños.
The second thing that Osorio is asking in order to leave América de Cali and sign with the Azulcremas is having his family with him, as he’s looking for a long contract, and not to be just a lifesaver, which suggests that his real job will start in Apertura 2022 and the remainder of the current season will be to get to know the roster and the needs the club has.
Carlos Vela is currently playing his fifth and last year with MLS side Los Angeles FC, which will open the door in the summer to any club interested in acquiring his services for free, although they’d have to pay a sum like what he’s currently earning with LAFC, that’s around $4.5 million per season.
