Carlos Rodríguez had a dream debut, featuring in Juan Reynoso's starting 11 and scoring the first of two goals as Cruz Azul defeated Tijuana.
The former Monterrey player took all the pressure off himself, celebrating euphorically, and when he came off as a substitute, he received a huge ovation from the thousands of fans who attended the Azteca Stadium.
"We got the victory, which was important at the start of the tournament. I'm happy to help the group with the goal. I released many things, as I said, it was a difficult decision, but I knew I had not made a mistake coming here, so in that goal I got it all out," he mentioned in the press zone.
The young midfielder dedicated his goal to his family and the fans of the Celeste team: "When I heard that I was coming, I only received good things. I'm going to try to repay the confidence they show me when I'm on the field," he added.
"Now it was my turn to play for the infected (Covid-19) and the injured. I showed the desire I have. I want to do well. Cruz Azul has shown great confidence in me," he said.
He arrived with the label of 'great player': "I have felt very well, the group is very healthy and spreads happiness. We were received in the best way, that makes our job easier," he added.
Carlos Rodríguez believes that by joining Cruz Azul in 2022, he will have more opportunities to go with the Mexican national team to the World Cup in Qatar.
"The focus is different, I am in a big club. I am happy to be here and I hope we win great things. We have to work every day to achieve our best form," he concluded.
Cruz Azul, in its debut, defeated Tijuana 2-0 on Saturday, January 8, in the first round of the Clausura 2022 of the Liga MX.
The 'Máquina Cementera' took the lead at 43 minutes, through Carlos Rodríguez, and Reynoso's side went into the halftime break with the lead.
In the second half, Rafael Baca scored the second and final goal at 66 minutes, after a shot from outside the area. Consequently, Cruz Azul started the tournament on the right foot and will host Juárez next match day.
