Violence broke out on the afternoon of March 5 at the Corregidora Stadium when fans watching the match between Querétaro and Atlas engaged in a pitched brawl.
Tragedy in Liga MX: Querétaro vs. Atlas, how did the conflict start, and who was involved?
Following the violence during the Querétaro vs. Atlas match, the Civil Protection Coordination of the State of Querétaro informed through its social networks that 22 people were injured, nine of whom were taken to a hospital.
The violent incident in Querétaro, which sparked the condemnation of all the teams in the league, is not unique, and throughout the history of Mexican soccer, there has been no shortage of people who have tarnished the sport of soccer with their behavior.
In August 2011, Santos Laguna fans were enjoying a game against the now-defunct Monarcas Morelia at the Corona Stadium, they experienced moments of terror due to a shooting.
At that time, things did not escalate, as in Querétaro, and everything turned out to be a scare, but some fans and players fled and took cover wherever they could. The shooting took place outside the stadium.
A fan entered the field and provoked a large-scale pitch fight on May 15, 2011, when Cruz Azul and Morelia faced each other at the Morelos stadium.
At that time, Christian Giménez tried to stop the intruder who was trying to get close to Gerardo Torrado with a "flying kick"; Fausto Pinto complained and Morelia's coach, Sergio Martin, intervened, which unleashed the anger of Jesús Corona, who followed him to the bench to give him a tremendous headbutt.
Attendees at the match between San Luis and Tigres invaded the field, which caused the match to be stopped for a few minutes.
Although the fight originated in the stands, the people in the lower part of the stadium took to the field to protect themselves from the projectiles that the "fans" of both teams threw at each other.
A classic between Atlas and Chivas almost sent policemen who were guarding the Jalisco stadium to the hospital when the fans attacked them.
The security forces were outnumbered and in the end had to retreat, leaving some of their colleagues on the ground at the mercy of the "fans" who, in addition to beating them, stripped them of their helmets and shields.
On that occasion, the rioters also managed to enter the field and everything ended with some people being arrested.
In 2020, history repeated itself in the stands of the Jalisco.
In 2019, in one of the most unfortunate events in Mexican soccer, Monterrey and Tigres fans engaged in a pitched brawl that left a 21-year-old seriously injured.
The events, at the time, took place in Monterrey, a few steps away from the Universitario Stadium, where the young Tigres fan was left half-naked and unconscious on an avenue. The images went around the world.
