América is one step away from the Final of the Clausura 2022 tournament, but to reach that stage they will have to overcome a rival that has made them suffer in the Fiesta Grande, since in five knockout rounds in which they have met, in four they have been eliminated at the hands of Pachuca, who even beat them in the Final in the Clausura 2007.
Lozano visits Pachuca and reminds America who's in charge
The only time the Azulcremas defeated the Tuzos was 10 years ago, in the Clausura 2012 tournament, but in the quarterfinal round. The first leg took place at the Estadio Hidalgo and, with a performance that was almost noteworthy, the team then coached by Miguel Herrera won 3-1 with a brace from Hobbit Bermúdez and a goal from Jesús Molina.
In the second leg, Los Millonetas were able to cope with the situation, although they were in trouble thanks to a goal by Néstor Vidrio from outside the area. After that, Los Cremas went forward, but Christian Benítez was extremely erratic and missed very clear chances to score to seal the tie.
That is the only Liga MX record of América eliminating Pachuca. It is true that they have faced each other in other competitions such as the Copa Sudamericana and Copa MX in direct elimination rounds, but as far as the local tournament is concerned, this was the only time the Águilas have eliminated the Tuzos.
Fernando Ortiz's Águilas del América and Guillermo Almada's Pachuca will face each other in the Semifinal of the Fiesta Grande of the Grita México Clausura 2022 Liga MX Tournament. The first leg, which will take place at the Azteca Stadium, will be played on Thursday, May 19 at 8:00 pm in Mexico City, while the second leg at the Hidalgo Stadium will be played on Sunday, May 22 at the same time.
