Amaury Vergara spoke about the return of Matías Almeyda to Chivas

For Clausura 2022, Chivas have been one of the most irregular teams in Liga MX, as they have had passages where they’ve showed that they know how to associate and play good soccer, but most of the time they rely on individualities to try to get close to the rivals’ box.

Although some of the blame is on the players, the main responsible for the lack of ideas is Marcelo Michel Leaño, who arrived in El Rebaño’s bench during Apertura 2021 to replace Víctor Manuel Vucetich, who was sacked for his poor results.

For now, Amaury Vergara has stated multiple times that Michel Leaño will remain as Chivas coach for the rest of the season, and over the summer they will discuss the results obtained in Clausura 2022 and decide his future.

But according to the report of sports journalist Miguel Arizpe, in Chivas facilities they’re already talking about a potential replacement of Michel Leaño once Clausura 2022 is over, given that the results he’s had are worse than the ones obtained by Vucetich during his stint.

Almeyda has the doors open to return

During an interview for Chivas TV, Amaury Vergara confirmed that every person that was once part of Chivas has the doors opened to return whenever they want, if that return is meant to contribute and improve the team.

With that, Vergara confirmed that Matías Almeyda not only has an opportunity of returning to Chivas, but he’s also being considered as one of the favorites, as Almeyda himself has said in the past that if an offer from Chivas arrives, he would love to return.

Almeyda is currently on his last year of contract with MLS side San Jose Earthquakes, team he started coaching in 2019. If he were to return over the summer, Chivas woundl’t have to negotiate with the Quakes, as Almeyda has a special clause on his contract stating that he can leave whenever he wants if Chivas offers him to return.

The request of Almeyda to return

Almeyda hasn’t hide the affection he feels towards El Rebaño, which means he knows what the current roster lacks. That’s why he would request three players to arrive with him in order to make Chivas a competitive team once again.
