After Amaury Vergara decided to part ways with Marcelo Michel Leaño, who coached El Rebaño for the first 13 rounds and left them out of Repechaje spots, as he only managed to win three games during his stint in Clausura 2022.

Marcelo Michel Leaño returns to the Rebaño Sagrado but away from coaching, what will he do now at Chivas?

With only four games left in the season, Vergara decided to give Ricardo Cadena the opportunity to gain experience in Mexico’s top flight, as he’s been coaching in El Rebaño structure for a while now, from the academy teams to CD Tapatío, Chivas’s reserves team.

Having Cadena in El Rebaño’s dugout for the remainder of the season would give Vergara and Ricardo Peláez the chance of finding a new coach according to their interests without having to rush into signing someone that didn’t fit Chivas’s ideals.

But what Vergara didn’t expect was that Chivas remained unbeaten with Cadena as their coach, as they’ve now beaten Cruz Azul, Xolos de Tijuana, and Pumas to ensure their participation in Repechaje, something that looked difficult to achieve with Michel Leaño.

He already decided to hire a new coach

Knowing that Ricardo Cadena was promoted just for the remainder of the season, Chivas followers were asking for Matías Almeyda return, given that he resigned to San José Earthquakes and is the last coach that gave them a title.

Another part of El Rebaño fans were requesting the arrival of Nicolás Larcamón, who has helped Club Puebla to become a protagonist in Liga MX even with the limited roster that he has, but Vergara knows that the perfect fit for Chivas is neither of them.

According to reports from W Deportes, Amaury Vergara realized that they need a coach that comes from within Chivas’s structure, someone who knows how things work inside, that feels the colors and knows the players, someone like Ricardo Cadena.

Will Cadena remain in Chivas?

The same report suggests that the decision of Vergara to keep him at least another season in charge of the first team has to do also with the economic situation, as he doesn’t want to spend much money to acquire new players, and neither is planning on paying a high salary to another coach.
