After passing most of the season outside of Repechaje zone thanks to the irregular results that Chivas had with Marcelo Michel Leaño, in the last four games of the regular season helped El Rebaño Sagrado to play in Repechaje and then make it into Liguilla.
Chivas will have a new coach for Apertura 2022; Ricardo Cadena won’t remain as coach
It seems like the departure of Marcelo Michel Leaño from El Rebaño’s dugout arrived too late in the season, as even if Ricardo Cadena has helped the team to reach the quarterfinals of Clausura 2022, he didn’t have enough time to fully establish his system.
The first real challenge for Chivas arrived on Thursday night, when Cadena faced his first Clásico Tapatío and couldn’t beat an Atlas that even if they didn’t have the best closure in the regular season, are a strong candidate to repeat the Liga MX title.
The Mexican coach couldn’t find a way to break the structured defense of Atlas, who have a deeply rooted idea of how to play together since they have three straight Liguillas being protagonists and already won Liga MX title last season.
The good streak of Chivas wasn’t enough for the Rojiblancos to transcend in the playoffs, as Cadena lacked variants to change the course of the game once they were down on the score, given the limited roster that Chivas has.
That’s why Amaury Vergara understood that not only a good morale is needed to transcend, but also quality players, which is why El Rebaño Sagrado will part ways with three players once Chivas’s participation in Clausura 2022 is over.
According to reports from W Deportes Radio, the first player that will leave Chivas is Antonio “Pollo” Briseño, who has become a troublemaker in the locker room, same thing with César “Chino” Huerta, as both players were involved in a fight during a Chivas game.
Although he was Chivas captain with Victor Manuel Vucetich, since he was sacked, Jesús Molina lost his protagonist role in El Rebaño and now he doesn’t even is considered as part of the starting XI, which is why they are looking to sell him in the summer transfer window.
