For their game against Club León on the sixth round of Clausura 2022, Chivas couldn’t maintain the score and with a last-minute goal of La Fiera, they lost 2-1 on their visit to Nou Camp, evidencing that the problems in El Rebaño are bigger than what their look.

While Chivas was losing against León, this is what Amaury Vergara was doing

Chivas hasn’t won a single title since Matías Almeyda left in 2018, but when Amaury Vergara took over El Rebaño in 2019, they have lost the protagonist role they used to have in Liga MX, a problem that turned into a real crisis after Vergara decided to part ways with José Manuel Vucetich.

Since Marcelo Michel Leaño replaced “Vuce” amidst Apertura 2021 until today, Chivas have won just 4 out of 15 games with Vergara’s friend on the dugout. The current crisis is not just because the expected results don’t arrive but also because Chivas doesn’t have an identity when they’re on the pitch.

Why did Vergara ask Grupo Orlegi for help?

It took Amaury Vergara 3 years until he finally realized that, in order to own a Liga MX club, he needs more than money, which is why he decided to approach Alejandro Irarragorri and Grupo Orlegi, who are known to be one of the most successful organizations in the Mexican soccer industry.

According to El Universal, Vergara asked Irarragorri if he could help him to turn things around in Chivas and make them a successful franchise. If reports are correct, Atlas owner suggested to part ways with both Marcelo Michel Leaño and Ricardo Peláez, as they haven’t known how to manage a team like Chivas.

Can Grupo Orlegi buy El Rebaño?

Although Amaury Vergara has stated in the past that he’s not interested in selling the team, his approach to Grupo Orlegi suggest that he might be open to sell it if the price and the time is right. For the latter, it seems that the moment is getting closer, but for the former, Irarragorri would have to offer at least $311.5 million if he wants to convince Vergara.
