The last game of the season for Chivas was a visit to Club Necaxa, where both teams were trying to earn the three points to ensure that they’d receive the home advantage in Repechaje, as both teams arrived at the round 17 of Clausura 2022 with three straight victories.
Amaury Vergara didn’t want him in Chivas and now he’ll play in Europe
El Rebaño Sagrado ended stealing the three points with a last-minute goal scored by Miguel Ángel Ponce out of a corner kick that he received with a header that left Luis Malagón without possibilities of stopping the ball.
Chivas could have won by two goals thanks to a goal scored by Alexis Vega at the start of the second half, although the referee and the VAR invalidated it after reviewing it for several minutes due to an offside on the play that started Chivas’s attack.
After the goal was taken off the score board, Alexis Vega disappeared from the game, as he couldn’t contribute to the creation and didn’t have another opportunity after that. Luckily for him, the were able to continue their winning streak at the end.
Alexis Vega has been the best Chivas player in the season, as even when Marcelo Michel Leaño was still coaching El Rebaño Sagrado, he was one of the most consistent players, and the one who helped El Rebaño remain on the battle to earn a playoff spot.
But according to Chirstian Martinoli during the broadcasting of the game, Vega’s head wasn’t on the game, as now that the end of the regular season arrived, he’s more focused on his future, as he is now able to negotiate with any team that he wants his arrival at the end of the year.
Vega’s contract with Chivas expires on December and he hasn’t started negotiating a contract extension with El Rebaño, especially since CF Monterrey showed interest him during the winter transfer window, although Vegas was convinced to stay in Chivas for the current season.
Monterrey is the team that has showed more interest in him and are the main reason for which Vega hasn’t renewed with El Rebaño Sagrado, as they offered to pay him three times more than his current salary, something that Chivas can’t pay him.
