The Camoteros made a mockery of the Águilas and paid dearly for it in Club América vs Puebla in the Liga MX Playoffs

Club América managed to beat 3-2 Club Puebla in the second leg of the quarterfinals after saving a 1-1 draw from their visit to Estadio Cuauhtémoc on Wednesday night, and thanks to the 4-3 aggregate they earned their ticket to the next stage.

The goals for Las Águilas were scored by Sebastián Cáceres on the first leg and Henry Martín, Diego Valdés, and Alejandro Zendejas on the second leg, showing that Fernando “Tano” Ortíz has found a way of making every player remain focused throughout the entire series.

Although Ortíz doesn’t have enough experience coaching in a top-tier division, he has showed that he has what it takes to keep his current job as Club América coach, as he now managed to surpass what Santiago Solari achieved during his stint, as he never made it past of quarterfinals.

Emilio Azcárraga awarded them from the good results

After the game ended, the owner of Las Águilas and Televisa, Emilio Azcárraga, went to the locker room to congratulate the roster and the coaching staff for the good results that they have earned since “Tano” Ortíz took over the team.

According to reports, Azcárraga informed them that the economical awards that had been suspended after the disastrous start they had in Clausura 2022 were reinstated and that they were going to receive it after Clausura 2022 ended, although if they manage to win the 14th title for Las Águilas the rewards will be higher.

Ortíz also said during the press conference that the roster had the morning off to rest and see their families before getting back to camp to start planning the semifinals, as they will know who their rival will be after the Sunday games are finished.

Will he remain in Club América?

One of the coaches that was being considered to replace him was Nicolás Larcamón but given that Ortíz planned a better strategy against him and that Las Águilas controlled most of the game, he is now the top candidate to become the next coach of Club América.
