Not Jude Bellingham, why Kobbie Mainoo has transformed England’s chances to win Euro 2024

The England national team advanced to the semifinals of the EUROS yesterday after beating Switzerland 5-3 on penalties. The game ended 1-1 after extra time, and despite not convincing many English fans, they are in another semifinal in a major tournament under Gareth Southgate. England did not make it easy for themselves at the knockout stages, and a few players were given credit for their efforts. One of them is Jude Bellingham, who has two goals at the EUROS so far. One underrated player that the national team has started to play more often is Kobbie Mainoo. The Manchester United youngster has started in the two knockout stages for England after not being given many minutes in the group stage. His last performance against Switzerland made fans optimistic about winning the tournament, and some believe he is the most essential player on the squad right now. Against Switzerland, Mainoo completed 100% tackles, won, had a 97% pass accuracy, had two shots, had two tackles, and played one key pass.

Mainoo created one chance against Switzerland and had two shots that were blocked. The English midfielder played for 78 minutes against Switzerland, gave England more security at the back, and made the team team attack slightly more. Mainoo played 84 minutes for England against Slovakia in the round of 16. He completed 65 out of 68 passes in the match which led to a 96% pass accuracy. He created one chance and had a shot blocked and a shot off target. He had seen passes into the final third, which improved the attack.

Jude Bellingham also thinks highly of the Manchester United midfielder, and under his post to show off about the win against Switzerland, the Real Madrid star wrote, "Young general." Mainoo played 45 minutes in the 0-0 draw against Slovenia in the group stage.

England and Kobbie Mainoo will be playing against the Netherlands in the semifinal, so the EUROS. England and the Netherlands will play each other at the Borussia Dortmund stadium on Wednesday. Mainoo is expected to start once again after two brilliant performances at the knockout stages.
