England will be playing another European Championship tomorrow and it is two EURO finals in a row for England under Gareth Southgate. The difference with this team is that it includes more young players who have made an impact, like Kobbie Mainoo. The 19-year-old central midfielder has started in all of England's knockout stage matches in EURO 2024 and it has proved that his team debut was a great decision. In less than a year he jumped from the youth league, to the stelar stages in Europe.
Mainoo was formed in Cheadle Gatley Junior Football Club, and for his performances Manchester United singed him for the youth team. Then he made his professional debut with Manchester United in January 2023, and his debut for England national team was on March 2024. With Manchester United he won his first professional trophy when the team defeated Manchester City in the FA Cup final of 2024 where he scored the winning goal.
Now the main objective of Kobbie is winning the EUROS. Then he will take on vacations, by which he will probably miss the pre season tour in the United States. But he will be back for the Community Shield against Manchester City, and then start the Premier League competition. The main goals for the new season will be, of course, winning the Premier League and returning to the big stage in Europe, the UEFA Champions League.
Before all of this, the young Manchester United midfielder is getting lots of praise from the fans, and an England legend even compares him to a great midfielder like Zinedine Zidane. Steven Gerrard has been labeled as one of the great English midfielder of all time.
Steven Gerrard praised Mainoo and said, "Talk about the big names of midfielders in the history of the game. Viera, Casemiro, Zinedine Zidane, Luka Modric. This kid is doing at 19 what these greats did in their prime. He's a joke."
The midfielder is set to start in the EUROS cup final against Spain tomorrow in England's biggest game in years.
Another Premier League legend who praised Mainoo ahead of the final tomorrow is Wayne Rooney. This praise will feel special for Mainoo since Wayne Rooney is a club legend at Manchester United. Rooney's praise shocks many but not others, and there is a lot of hype around the midfielder. Rooney said, "Over the next few years, [Kobbie] Mainoo is going to become one of the best players in the world."
Mainoo's manager at Manchester United, Erik Ten Hag, has also praised him for his performances at the EUROS. Ten Hag was impressed and this is what he said about Mainoo against the Netherlands in the semifinals of the EUROS.
Ten Hag said, "As much as I hoped Oranje would win, I enjoyed Kobbie Mainoo. What a talent. Technically, but also mentally." The Manchester United coach will want his star to succeed in the EUROS, so he return with all the motivation to the team. He is confident that with Mainoo, the trophies are going to appear next season.
Mainoo spoke ahead of the final tomorrow against Spain, and he showed his mentality by his response to England's performances so far. The Manchester United midfielder said, "It's been good to play my part when called upon but I can't look back on it too fondly until the job is finished and we've lifted the trophy."
One of the most impressive records that Kobbie Mainoo broke this tournament, is the pass accuracy. He has 96% of accuracy from all the central midfielders that at least tried 100 passes in the competition. It means from his 136 tries, he only missed 5 of those passes. Many people believe that Kobbie has been the key for England to get to the final, despite having great leaders and players like Harry Kane or Jude Bellingham.
Definitely Kobbie Mainoo is one of England's national team stars, and he is set to be one of the most important players for Manchester United this upcoming season.
